Battle of McDowell Reenactment

May 5-6, 2007 at McDowell , VA

Several members of the 78th PA attended the bi-annual reenactment at McDowell which raises money to help preserve that battlefield.  Our company was composed of several units from the 3rd Regiment which represented the 82nd Ohio for the weekend.  On Saturday, the Confederates drove us out of the town.  With nothing but hastily constructed gum blanket shelters over our heads, we lasted through a rainy night.  On Sunday, we marched up the mountain overlooking McDowell and engaged the Confederates on part of the actual battlefield.

Our company begins to get worried as the Confederates begin pushing us back.

After being pushed out of the town, our company prepares to bivouac for the night.

Aaron, Tom, and Mike combined gum blankets to make a cozy shelter from the rain on Saturday night.
